A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE
COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2026 GENERAL
FUND BUDGET TO MOUNTAIN PARK ENVIRONMENTAL
ASSOCIATION (DBA NATURE AND WILDLIFE DISCOVERY
CENTER) IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500 TO SPONSOR THE
LAND AND LEGACY BENEFIT DINNER ON FRIDAY,
SEPTEMBER 25, 2026, FROM 5:00 TO 9:00 PM AT PUEBLO
UNION DEPOT
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that
SECTION 1.
Payment in the amount of $2,500 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2026
General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Mountain Park Environmental Association
(DBA Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center) to sponsor the Land and Legacy Dinner on Friday,
September 25, 2026, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Pueblo Union Depot.
SECTION 2.
The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent
with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a request for support of Mountain Park Environmental
Association (DBA Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center) in the amount of $2,500 to
sponsor the Land and Legacy Benefit Dinner on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 5:00
to 9:00 PM at Pueblo Union Depot.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
Council supported this organization's Winter Solstice Celebration in 2024 for $900.
BACKGROUND:
City Council Member Ted Hernandez is requesting $2,500 to sponsor Mountain Park
Environmental Association (DBA Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center) Land and
Legacy Benefit Dinner. The fundraiser will take place on Friday, September 25, 2026,
from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Pueblo Union Depot.
Attendees of the Land and Legacy Benefit Dinner will enjoy a three -course culinary
experience crafted by local Pueblo chefs, a fully hosted bar, live entertainment, a silent
auction, and high-energy paddle raise. Funds raised at the event will be used to support
their youth education programs, raptor rehabilitation programs, and the monumental
recovery of Pueblo Mountain Park following the destruction from the Aspen Acres Fire,
especially the Horseshoe Lodge.

Mountain Park Environmental Association (DBA Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center)
is a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to promote environmental stewardship and community
health through nature education, wildlife rehabilitation, and outdoor recreation.
This sponsorship tier includes 8 VIP tickets to the event and complimentary NWDC
annual memberships for all 8 guests.
The cost to attend is $75 and as of August 11, 2026, 50 tickets had been sold totaling
$3,750. The estimated cost to host the event is $30,000 and as of August 13, 2026,
they had $19,000 in pledged sponsorships.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
Payment of funds in the amount of $2,500 would be paid from the Council
Contingencies Account in the 2026 General Fund Budget to Mountain Park
Environmental Association (DBA Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center).
