BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that
SECTION 1.
Payment in the amount of $2,500 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2026
General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Pueblo Chamber of Commerce to sponsor the
Pueblo Chile Balloon Fest taking place at the Langoni Soccer Fields and in Historic Downtown
Pueblo on Union Avenue on Friday, September 18th from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Saturday,
September 19th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM, and Sunday, September 20th, 2026, from 10:00
AM to 5:00 PM.
SECTION 2
The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent
with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a request for support of Pueblo Chamber of Commerce in
the amount of $2,500 to sponsor the Pueblo Chile Balloon Fest taking place at the
Langoni Soccer Fields and in Historic Downtown Pueblo on Union Avenue on Friday,
September 18th from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Saturday, September 19th from 10:00 AM
to 12:00 AM, and Sunday, September 20th, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
Council supported this event in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 for $2,500.
BACKGROUND:
City Council Member Ted Hernandez is requesting $2,500 to sponsor Pueblo Chamber
of Commerce's Pueblo Chile Balloon Fest. The festival will take place at the Langoni
Soccer Fields and in Historic Downtown Pueblo on Union Avenue on Friday,
September 18th from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Saturday, September 19th from 10:00 AM
to 12:00 AM, and Sunday, September 20th, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Pueblo Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)(6) whose mission is to serve as a voice and
advocate for the local business community, and for the people of the greater Pueblo
area, creating an environment that promotes growth and prosperity.

The Chile and Frijoles Festival was created to promote Pueblo's rich agriculture and
encourage our community, and region, to buy local fresh products at any of the
numerous farm stands and specialty shops available during the festival and year-round.
The event features live entertainment, street vendors, and cooking competitions. It is
held downtown along Union Avenue and draws in Pueblo residents as well as people
from across the state and around the nation.
During Balloon Fest, 20+ giant hot air balloons will inflate and launch from Langoni
Soccer Fields, and fly over the city of Pueblo for approximately 1-2 hours. Weather
permitting, they will launch on Friday morning as a fun "press day", and Saturday and
Sunday mornings from the soccer fields at Langoni Fields. On Friday and Saturday
evening, weather permitting, a few balloons will inflate on the grassy knolls of the
Riverwalk at Alan Hamel Dr & South Main with pilots present to share facts about Hot
Air Balloons with spectators.
Approximately 20 balloonists will be traveling in for Balloon Fest with the total cost,
including marketing & logistics, estimated at approximately $30,000. As of August 13,
2026, they had received approximately $20,000 in sponsorships. Sponsorship funds will
be used to cover expenses related to bringing the volunteer balloonists and their
equipment to Pueblo from other cities and out of state, and to provide housing and
meals.
This sponsorship tier includes a hot air balloon ride for 3 people.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Payment of funds in the amount of $2,500 would be paid from the Council
Contingencies Account in the 2026 General Fund Budget to Pueblo Chamber of
Commerce.

ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose.

This Resolution is at the request of Council Member Ted Hernandez.
