A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE
COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2026 GENERAL
FUND BUDGET TO METRO VOLUNTEERS (DBA SPARK THE
CHANGE COLORADO) IN THE AMOUNT OF $1000 TO
SPONSOR THE 4TH ANNUAL SUICIDE MEMORY WALK FROM
9:00 AM TO 12:00 PM, ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2026, AT
MINNEQUA LAKE PARK
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that
SECTION 1.
Payment in the amount of $1000 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2026
General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Metro Volunteers (DBA Spark the Change
Colorado) to sponsor the 4th Annual Suicide Memory Walk from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, on
September 5, 2026, at Minnequa Lake Park.
SECTION 2
The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent
with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a request for support of Metro Volunteers (DBA Spark the
Change Colorado) in the amount of $1000 to sponsor the 4th Annual Suicide Memory
Walk from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, on September 5, 2026, at Minnequa Lake Park.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
Council supported the Annual Suicide Memory Walk in 2025 for $1,000.
BACKGROUND:
City Council Members Joe Latino and Selena Ruiz -Gomez are requesting $1000 to
sponsor Metro Volunteers (DBA Spark the Change Colorado) 4th Annual Suicide
Memory Walk. The memory walk will take place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, on
September 5, 2026, at Minnequa Lake Park.
Metro Volunteers (DBA Spark the Change Colorado) is a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to
make volunteering ridiculously easy so people can "do good and feel good." They
believe that volunteering creates real mental wellness benefits for the volunteer, not just
those being helped.
The goal of this event is to bring the community together to create a safe space to heal
the loss of loved ones to suicide, to bring awareness, prevent suicide, and connect
people with resources and support.

The Annual suicide Memory Walk is a yearly free event to support those who have lost
a loved one to suicide and to honor those lives lost. Pueblo has seen on average, one
suicide a week for the last several years. The walk brings awareness, breaks down
stigma, offers resources and services to support the mental health and wellness of our
community, and lets people know they are not alone.
The cost to hold the memory walk in 2025 was $2,130, and they are aiming to reduce
the cost this year to approximately $1,500. Between sponsorships and registrations,
they have so far raised $640.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Payment of funds in the amount of $1000 would be paid from the Council
Contingencies Account in the 2026 General Fund Budget to Metro Volunteers (DBA
Spark the Change Colorado).

City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose
RECOMMENDATION:
This Resolution is at the request of Council Members Joe Latino and Selena Ruiz -
