AMERICA (DBA FRAY ANGELICO CHAVEZ CHAPTER)
(ACTING AS FISCAL AGENT FOR SOUTHERN COLORADO
LATINA/O/X WRITERS) IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000 TO
SPONSOR THE ADELANTE WRITERS CONFERENCE AT
RAWLINGS LIBRARY FROM 8:00 AM TO 4:00 PM, ON
OCTOBER 10, 2026
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that
SECTION 1 _
Payment in the amount of $1,000 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2026
General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Genealogical Society of Hispanic America
(DBA Fray Angelico Chavez Chapter) to sponsor the Adelante Writers Conference at Rawlings
Library from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, on October 10, 2026.
SECTION 2.
The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent
with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

Attached for consideration is a request for support of Genealogical Society of Hispanic
America (DBA Fray Angelico Chavez Chapter) (acting as fiscal agent for Southern
Colorado Latina/o/x Writers) in the amount of $1,000 to sponsor the Adelante Writers
Conference at Rawlings Library from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, on October 10, 2026.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None.
BACKGROUND:
City Council Member Selena Ruiz -Gomez is requesting $1,000 to sponsor Southern
Colorado Latina/o/x Writers' (fiscal agent Genealogical Society of Hispanic America -
DBA Fray Angelico Chavez Chapter) Adelante Writers Conference. The conference will
take place at Rawlings Library from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, on October 10, 2026.
The purpose of Southern Colorado Latina/o/x Writers is as follows: to make resources
available to assist writers in making informational, cultural, ethnic and historical works
visible in a written format, or other formats, and make such training generally available
in a conference format every two years; to create a bi-annual conference to enhance
personal skills in writing fiction or non-fiction, editing, publication, character creation,
content development, tools, the business of writing and other topics; to obtain grants to

fund such projects, and properly administer such funding by producing evaluation and
documentation; and to empower people to participate in their community by writing
which is herein described as putting concerns or initiatives into a written form. Besides
being educational, this effort is also aimed at developing the basic skills people need to
engage in civic community initiatives.
Conference participation is free and includes educational sessions, a Keynote Speaker,
breakfast, and lunch. The goal/mission is to empower writers to engage in the writing
community to publish works, speak/write out with voice, support each other. They
currently anticipate 100 participants.
Sponsorship funds will be used to cover conference expenses such as meals for
participants, presenters' stipend, and supplies.
The estimated total to hold the conference is $5,050.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Payment of funds in the amount of $1,000 would be paid from the Council
Contingencies Account in the 2026 General Fund Budget to Genealogical Society of
Hispanic America (DBA Fray Angelico Chavez Chapter).

ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose.
RECOMMENDATION:
This Resolution is at the request of Council Member Selena Ruiz -Gomez.
