RESOLUTION NO. 16388
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AND CONSENTING TO
NOMINATION OF THE PLAZA VERDE PARK TO THE
NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
WHEREAS, the National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's
historic buildings and archaeological sites that are considered worthy of preservation, and;
WHEREAS, Plaza Verde Park is being reviewed by the State Historic Preservation
Review Board for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places, and;
WHEREAS, Plaza Verde Park is of local historic significance under National Register
Criterion A for Art, Ethnic Heritage: Hispanic/Latino/Chicano and Social History: Women's
History, and;
WHEREAS, the National Register of Historic Places provides recognition for historic value
and incentivizes efforts in preserving designated historic places, and;
WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo is the sole property owner and manager of Plaza Verde
Park, and;
WHEREAS, the boundary of the National Register nomination measures approximately
852 ft by 744 ft and encompasses the entire park property. Two contributing resources are
located within the park and include the handball court structure, painted with a historic mural
and the restroom building, and;
WHEREAS, historic landmarking of a site affords it prestige, which can enhance
community awareness and pride. Now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that
SECTION 1.
The City of Pueblo supports the nomination of Plaza Verde Park to the National Register
of Historic Places.
SECTION 2.
This Resolution shall become effective immediately after the date of final action by the
Mayor and City Council.

Attached is a resolution of support for the nomination of Plaza Verde Park to the
National Register of Historic Places.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None
BACKGROUND:
The Colorado Heritage for All Initiative is one of America 250-Colorado 150
Commission's Signature Initiatives celebrating the 250th. The proposed resolution of
support serves as the City's consent for the City -owned Plaza Verde Park to be
nominated for the National Register of Historic Places with two contributing elements,
the handball courts and the restroom buildings, and their associated murals.
