A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE
COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2026 GENERAL
FUND BUDGET TO PUEBLO COUNTY GOVERNMENT DBA
PUEBLO COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION IN THE AMOUNT
OF $3,000 TO SPONSOR THE PUEBLO REGIONAL YOUTH
TENNIS PROGRAM FROM 9:00 TO 10:30 AM AND 6:00 TO 7:30
PM AT THE CITY PARK TENNIS COURTS ON MONDAYS AND
8:00 TO 10:00 AM ON TUESDAYS FROM JUNE 8-JULY 30,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that
SECTION 1
Payment in the amount of $3,000 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2026
General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Pueblo County Government DBA Pueblo
County Parks & Recreation to sponsor the Pueblo Regional Youth Tennis Program from 8:30 to
10:00 AM at the Pueblo County and City of Pueblo Tennis Courts on Mondays and
Wednesdays June 8-July 29, 2026.
SECTION 2_
The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent
with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a request for support of Pueblo County Government DBA
Pueblo County Parks & Recreation in the amount of $3,000 to sponsor the Pueblo
Regional Youth Tennis Program from 8.30 to 10.00 AM at the Pueblo County and City
of Pueblo Tennis Courts on Mondays and Wednesdays June 8-July 29, 2026.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None.
BACKGROUND:
City Council Members Ted Hernandez and Selena Ruiz -Gomez are requesting $3,000
to sponsor Pueblo County Parks & Recreation's Pueblo Regional Youth Tennis
Program. The program began on June 8, 2026 and takes place from 8.30 to 10.00 AM
at the Pueblo County Highschool and City Park Tennis Courts on Mondays and
Wednesdays through July 29, 2026.
The Pueblo County Regional Youth Tennis Program is designed to provide accessible,
affordable, and inclusive recreational and youth development opportunities for children
and adolescents in the Pueblo region. The program will offer structured tennis

instruction, physical activity, mentorship, and life -skills development in a safe and
supportive environment. Starting June 8th- July 29th, the 8-week, 2-session (Morning
and Evening) structured program of clinics and tennis enrichment activities will provide
a youth -based program that aims to promote healthy lifestyles and foster positive social
connections among participating youth.
The target audience includes youth ages 5-18, with a primary focus on children and
families from disadvantaged, low-income, and underserved communities within the City
and County of Pueblo who may have limited access to extracurricular sports and
recreational programming. The cost to participate is $60 per student. The program had
45 students registered out of the 50 anticipated as of May 29, 2026.
Sponsorship funds will be used to support a (2) session (Morning/Evening), 8-week
youth tennis program. Funding will be utilized for one-time equipment startup costs.
Equipment Costs: Tennis Balls, Youth Racquets, Cones, Agility Ladders, Targets,
Scoreboards, and Clipboards. The estimated cost to run the program is $10,000 and
they have received $5,000 from the Colorado Youth Tennis Foundation to cover
staffing, scholarships, and equipment.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Payment of funds in the amount of $3,000 would be paid from the Council
Contingencies Account in the 2026 General Fund Budget to Pueblo County
Government DBA Pueblo County Parks & Recreation.

City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose.
RECOMMENDATION:
This Resolution is at the request of Council Members Selena Ruiz -Gomez and Ted
Hernandez.
