(DBA CARE AND SHARE FOOD BANK FOR SOUTHERN COLORADO) IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000 TO SPONSOR THE 2026 RECIPE FOR HOPE LUNCHEON FROM 12:00- 1:00 PM AT PUEBLO CONVENTION CENTER ON APRIL 16, 2026 SUMMARY: Attached for consideration is a request for support of Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado in the amount of $1,000 to sponsor the 2026 Recipe for Hope Luncheon from 12:00 - 1:00 PM at the Pueblo Convention Center on April 16, 2026. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Council supported this Recipe for Hope Luncheon in 2025 for $2,000. BACKGROUND: City Council Members Roger Gomez and Joe Latino are requesting $1,000 to sponsor Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado 2026 Recipe for Hope Luncheon. The Recipe for Hope Luncheon will take place on April 16, 2026, from 12:00 - 1:00 PM at the Pueblo Convention Center. Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado's mission is to ensure equitable and sustainable access to nutritious food and education by partnering with neighbors, communities, organizations, and supporters across Southern Colorado because they believe no one should go hungry. Their vision is to place people first to maximize access to nutritious food and meet the unique needs of each neighbor they serve. Their core values are people, resilience, integrity, dignity, equity, and excellence. Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado began in 1972 when Sister Dominique Pisciotta saw that our community could do more to help those struggling to put food on the table. Today, through their network of 45 Pueblo partner agencies and direct service programs like Mobile Food Pantries, the Children's Nutrition Initiative, and Everyday Eats for seniors, we are ensuring healthy food reaches neighbors who need it most. 80% of what they distribute is highly nutritious (fresh produce, dairy, meat, and bread). Sponsorship funds will be used to cover costs associated with hosting the luncheon as it is a free event for the community to learn more about how they help those who face food insecurity. This sponsorship tier includes 8 VIP tickets. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Payment of funds in the amount of $1,000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2026 General Fund Budget to Care and Share, INC. (DBA Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado). BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not applicable. I11 fl1 If yes, please list the event ties Heroes Helping Heroes - Southern Colorado Veteran's Food Distribution: We and a short description, serve veterans and families from Pueblo and 13 Rural counties such as Las Animas, Bent, Otero, Crowley County, Custer County, and Trinidad. The goal is to honor September 11th. In 2026, the Heroes Helping Heroes event will be held at CSU Pueblo on September 12th. In 2025 we handed out 1,000 boxes of food, 1,000 bags of fresh produce, ground beef, and over 1,000 baked goods and pastries. We also had 20 wraparound service agencies there for the day to provide veterans with more resources for help. Take a Turkey to work Day: We collect frozen turkeys and non-perishable goods at King Soopers locations. Last year it was on November 21st. Typically, we hold the event the Friday before Thanksgiving and distribute the turkeys the next day to help families have a centerpiece for their Thanksgiving meal.
