HomeMy WebLinkAbout16117 City Clerk's Office Item # Q3 Background Paper for Proposed Resolution COUNCIL MEETING DATE: September 8, 2025 TO: President Mark Aliff and Members of City Council CC: Mayor Heather Graham VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk FROM: Sarah Martinez, Councilor SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2025 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO PUEBLO COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000 TO SPONSOR LIVING HISTORY: CLAY JENKINSON AS ROOSEVELT & OPPENHEIMER AT 7:00 PM AT THE SANGRE DE CRISTO ARTS & CONFERENCE CENTER ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 23, AND FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2025 SUMMARY: Attached for consideration is a request for support of Pueblo County Historical Society in the amount of $1,000 to sponsor Living History: Clay Jenkinson as Roosevelt & Oppenheimer, a Chautauqua event starting at 7:00 PM at the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center on Thursday, October 23, and Friday, October 24, 2025. Sponsorship funds will be used to help cover expenses associated with hosting the event in order to help keep ticket prices accessible at $25. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: City Council Member Sarah Martinez is requesting $1,000 to sponsor Pueblo County Historical Society's Chautauqua event. These performances will take place on Thursday, October 23, and Friday, October 24, 2025 at 7:00 PM at the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center. Historic Pueblo, Inc. and the Pueblo County Historical Society are proud to present a two-night Chautauqua event at the Sangre de Cristo Art Center on October 23 (Robert Oppenheimer) and October 24 (Theodore Roosevelt). Hosted by local non-profits and presented at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, the event is designed to be both educationa and stimulate thoughtful dialogue around leadership, innovation, and public responsibilitycore themes that continue to shape our local and national identity. These performances offer audiences an engaging mix of theatrical performance, historical insight, and civic reflection. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Payment of funds in the amount of $1,000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2025 General Fund Budget to Pueblo County Historical Society. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: N/A STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: N/A ALTERNATIVES: City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose.
