HomeMy WebLinkAbout16116 City Clerk's Office Item # Q2 Background Paper for Proposed Resolution COUNCIL MEETING DATE: September 8, 2025 TO: President Mark Aliff and Members of City Council CC: Mayor Heather Graham VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk FROM: Sarah Martinez, Councilor SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2025 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO SERVICIOS DE LA RAZA AT 805 W. 4TH STREET IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000 TO SPONSOR THEIR PROGRAM JOVEN NOBLE SUMMARY: Attached for consideration is a request for support of Servicios de La Raza at 805 W. 4th Street in the amount of $1,000 to sponsor Joven Noble, the organizations youth mental health program. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Council supported for this program. BACKGROUND: City Council Member Sarah Martinez is requesting $1,000 to sponsor Servicios de La Raza's youth mental health program Joven Noble. Joven Noble translates to noble young man/woman in scared circles. The comprehensive healing-centered, indigenous-based, cultural rites of passage program is designed to provide support groups focused on life skills, cultural identity, and leadership development for adolescent males aged 12 -24 as well as mixed cohort(s) of both male and female youth. Their therapists work with cohorts over 12 weeks, focusing on the prevention of substance abuse, teen pregnancy, relationship violence, gang violence, and school failure. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Payment of funds in the amount of $1,000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2025 General Fund Budget to Servicios de La Raza. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: N/A STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: N/A ALTERNATIVES: City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose. Payment in the amount of $1,000 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2025 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Servicios de La Raza to sponsor Joven Noble, their youth mental health program. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.
