HomeMy WebLinkAbout16088 City Clerk's Office Item # Q2 Background Paper for Proposed Resolution COUNCIL MEETING DATE: August 11, 2025 TO: President Mark Aliff and Members of City Council CC: Mayor Heather Graham VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk FROM: Sarah Martinez, Councilor SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2025 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF THE DIOCESE (DBA CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF SOUTHERN COLORADO) IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000 TO SPONSOR THEIR 2025 COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS EVENT AT 9:00 AM AT THE SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL PARISH HALL ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19TH, 2025 SUMMARY: Attached for consideration is a request for support of Catholic Charities of Southern Colorado in the amount of $1,000 to sponsor the 2025 Community Christmas Event at 9:00 AM at Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish Hall on Friday, December 19th, 2025. Sponsorship funds will provide 500 hats, iron-on decals, tools, and table set up for a PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Council has supported Catholic Charities of Southern Colorado in the past, but this is the first request for this event. BACKGROUND: City Council Member Sarah Martinez is requesting $1,000 to sponsor Catholic Charities of December 19th, 2025, 9:00 AM at Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish Hall. This event is free and open to the public. Each year, Catholic Charities of Southern Colorado spreads holiday cheer to families in need, ensuring that every child experiences the joy of the season. The holidays are a special time when we go the extra mile to make sure every child receives a gift and leaves with a smile. Last year, over 300 children visited Santa Claus in a single day, were gifted a Beanie Workshop. This year, they expect to serve at least 500 children and welcome more than 1,000 guests. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Payment of funds in the amount of $1,000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2025 General Fund Budget to Catholic Charities of Southern Colorado. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: N/A STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: N/A ALTERNATIVES: City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose. Payment in the amount of $1,000 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2025 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Catholic Charities of Southern Colorado to sponsor their 2025 Community Christmas Event at 9:00 AM at Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish Hall on Friday, December 19th, 2025. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.
