HomeMy WebLinkAbout16071 City Clerk's Office Item # Q3 Background Paper for Proposed Resolution COUNCIL MEETING DATE: July 28, 2025 TO: President Mark Aliff and Members of City Council CC: Mayor Heather Graham VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk FROM: Roger Gomez, Councilor Sarah Martinez, Councilor SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2025 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO PUEBLO HISTORICAL AIRCRAFT SOCIETY IN THE AMOUNT OF $10,000 TO SPONSOR THE COST TO DISASSEMBLE AND TRANSPORT AN A-10 THUNDERBOLT II TO THE PUEBLO WEISBROD AIRCRAFT MUSEUM, AND THEN REASSEMBLE IT IN JULY OF 2025 SUMMARY: Attached for consideration is a request for support of Pueblo Historical Aircraft Society in the amount of $10,000 to sponsor the cost to disassemble and transport an A-10 Thunderbolt II to the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, and then reassemble it for display in July of 2025. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: City Council Members Sarah Martinez and Roger Gomez are requesting $10,000 to sponsor Pueblo Historical Aircraft Society's cost to disassemble and transport an an A- 10 Thunderbolt II to the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum and then reassemble it for display. The aircraft was transported to the museum earlier this month for a total cost of $87,648. Their mission is to preserve and honor military aviation history through the management of the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum. The A-10A Thunderbolt II, commonly July 2025. It is one of the most iconic and unusual planes in the modern Air Force fleet. The Warthog is a close-air support plane that flies low and slow with a vast arsenal of weapons, making it greatly respected and loved by ground troops. The airplane, now in display at the museum, flew 64 missions in Operation Desert Storm and served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Libya, Syria, and in Eastern Europe. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Payment of funds in the amount of $10,000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2025 General Fund Budget to Pueblo Historical Aircraft Society. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: N/A STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: N/A ALTERNATIVES: City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose. SOS - Pueblo Historical Aircraft Society pulled 6.20.25 3. 2025 Contingencies (Council) The Pueblo Historical Aircraft Society RESOLUTION NO.16071 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2025 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO PUEBLO HISTORICAL AIRCRAFT SOCIETY IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 FROM COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT AND $5,000 FROM THE MAYOR CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT TO SPONSOR THE COST TO DISASSEMBLE AND TRANSPORT AN A-10 THUNDERBOLT II TO THE PUEBLO WEISBROD AIRCRAFT MUSEUM, AND THEN REASSEMBLE IT IN JULY OF 2025 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that SECTION 1. Payment in the amount of $5,000 from Council Contingencies Account and $5,000 from the Mayor Contingencies Account in the 2025 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Pueblo Historical Aircraft Society to sponsor the cost to disassemble and transport an A-10 Thunderbolt II to the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, and then reassemble it in July of 2025. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.
