PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: This Ordinance establishes projects for each of the Geothermal Grants from the Colorado Energy Office, accepts the grant and approves the grant agreement between the City and CEO. The City submitted a Geothermal Energy Grant Program grant for improvements to each of the three new fire stations that the City is currently constructing. The City of Pueblo and the City of Pueblo Fire Department have committed to electrification in the construction of the three new fire stations. To reduce potential grid impacts and to improve winter resiliency, we are leveraging geothermal resources. The design process included evaluation of several design alternatives prior to the present focus on geothermal energy and a geoexchange system. In addition, we completed a geothermal test well to validate the suitability of these sites for geoexchange. The geothermal systems are coupled with high efficiency VRF and ERV HVAC systems within the fire houses along with high efficiency lighting and building envelope. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Match funds are not required. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: None. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: None. ALTERNATIVES: Without the funds from the Geothermal Grant Program, the City would be required to pay for the full amount of the geothermal improvements. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Ordinance.
