HomeMy WebLinkAbout5266RESOLUTION NO. 5266 A RESOLUTION OPPOSING MOUNTAIN BELL'S PROPOSED TRANSFER AND RELOCATION OF EMPLOYEES FROM THE CITY OF PUEBLO WHEREAS, the City Council of Pueblo has continuously sought to encourage and advance economic development within the City of Pueblo thereby creating additional employment, and WHEREAS, Pueblo currently suffers high unemployment, and WHEREAS, Mountain Bell intends to establish within its seven -state territory ten service regions known as Local Access and Transportation Areas (LATA), and WHEREAS, Mountain Bell in establishing its LATA for Colorado proposes to split the Grand Junction and Pueblo Maintenance /Test Center and transfer and relocate sixty -seven of its employees from Pueblo to other communities, and WHEREAS, such transfer and relocation of employees from Pueblo would adversely impact employment within the City of Pueblo and tend to injure its economic base. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, COLORADO, that: SEC'TMN 1- The City of Pueblo opposes and strenuously objects to Mountain Bell's proposed transfer and relocation of its employees from the City of Pueblo to other communities. SECTION 2. The City of Pueblo does hereby request management of Mountain Bell to reconsider its proposed transfer and relocation of employees from the City of Pueblo and to seriously consider establishing within the City of Pueblo its centralized Maintenance /Test Center for its LATA serving southeastern Colorado. Schneider General Manager -North Area Mountain Bell 1005 17th St., Room 1130 Denver, CO 80202 Dear Mr. Schneider: The City of Pueblo expresses its support for Mountain Bell's successful operation after its January 1, 1984 divestiture from AT &T. However, the City Council of Pueblo being concerned about the proposed transfer of Mountain Bell employees from Pueblo to other communities passed the enclosed Resolution on October 24, 1983. Being aware of Pueblo's current unemployment, I am sure you can appreciate our concern. Members of the City Council would certainly appreciate an opportunity to meet and discuss the proposed transfer of employees from Pueblo with you or other representatives of Mountain Bell.
