A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE
COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2024 GENERAL
FUND BUDGET TO MOUNTAIN PARK ENVIRONMENTAL
ASSOCIATION DBA NATURE AND WILDLIFE DISCOVERY
CENTER IN THE AMOUNT OF $900 TO SPONSOR THE
WINTER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION ON SATURDAY,
DECEMBER 21, FROM 4 TO 7 PM
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that
SECTION 1.
Payment in the amount of $900 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2024
General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Mountain Park Environmental Association DBA
Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center to sponsor the Winter Solstice Celebration on Saturday,
December 21, from 4 to 7 pm.
SECTION 2.
The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent
with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a request for support of Mountain Park Environmental
Association DBA Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center in the amount of $900 to
sponsor the Winter Solstice Celebration on Saturday, December 21, from 4 to 7 pm.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None.
BACKGROUND:
City Council Member Sarah Martinez is requesting $900 to support the Winter Solstice
Celebration on Saturday, December 21 from 4 - 7 pm. This family-friendly event
welcomes the winter season and celebrates the Winter Solstice. This special event is
one of four Earth holidays that mark seasonal transitions this one from fall to winter.
It also signifies the gradual return of more sunlight each day, celebrating light and the
start of a new year in the celestial calendar. The Winter Solstice is a significant time for
many of the plants, trees, and animals living at the River Campus.

In the past, there has been a ticket fee, but this year, we want to offer it for freewith
your support! We are expecting 200 participants in 2024.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Payment of funds in the amount of $900 would be paid from the Council Contingencies
Account in the 2024 General Fund Budget to Mountain Park Environmental Association
DBA Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center.

City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose.

This Resolution is at the request of Council Member Sarah Martinez.
