TITLE
AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE STREET NAME OF OLD SMELTER ROAD/
CLARENCE ROAD TO GRUMA DRIVE
ISSUE
Shall City Council approve a request to change the street name of Old Smelter Road/
Clarence Road to Gruma Drive?
RECOMMENDATION
The Planning and Zoning Commission, at their January 13, 2010 Regular Meeting,
voted 5 -0 to recommend approval.
BACKGROUND
Mission Foods of Pueblo is requesting to rename the existing street, which has two
names, Old Smelter Road and Clarence Road. Old Smelter Road is a private street
that intersects with Santa Fe Drive south of Hector Garcia Drive and runs southeast
terminating at the City's police and fire training range. The private Old Smelter road
becomes a public street once it crosses the railroad tracks and the name changes to
Clarence Road.
One structure is addressed off of Old Smelter Road, there are no structures addressed
off of Clarence Road. Due to the confusing nature of one public right -of -way having two
names and only one structure being addressed off of the street, the Department of
Transportation supports the name change request.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
None.
