ORDINANCE NO. 7910
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF UP TO $45,000 FROM THE 2008
GENERAL FUND RESERVES AND BUDGETING AND APPROPRIATING SUCH FUNDS FOR
THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING A DNA ANALYST POSITION, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE
COUNTY OF PUEBLO RELATING TO CRIME ENFORCEMENT WITHIN THE CITY AND
COUNTY OF PUEBLO
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
The amount up to $45,000 is hereby appropriated from the General Fund reserves to
fund a DNA Analyst.
SECTION 2.
Said funds shall be paid from the Non - Departmental Contractual Payments Account —
District Attorney's Office /DNA Analyst in the 2008 Budget.
SECTION 3.
This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final approval and passage.

ISSUE
Should City Council appropriate $45,000 to fund a DNA Analyst position in
partnership with the County of Pueblo to enhance law enforcement capabilities in
the City and County of Pueblo?
BACKGROUND
The City and County of Pueblo, as well as, the District Attorney's office have
been discussing ways of addressing the increasing crime rate that is occurring in
the Pueblo Community. These discussions have brought to fruition the proposal
of creating a DNA Analyst position in order to enhance law enforcement
capabilities. The City and County will fund this new position that will be part of
the District Attorney's Office. It is anticipated, this funding will be shared equally
between the two government bodies: up to $45,000 from the City, and up to
$45,000 from the County.
Approval of the Ordinance.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
An increase of $45,000 will be adjusted to the 2008 General Fund Budget.
