TITLE
AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE STREET NAME OF GRAHAM AVENUE TO
CORWIN AVENUE WITHIN THE MOSES BROTHERS SUBDIVISION AND
MINNEQUA ADDITION SUBDIVISION
ISSUE
Shall City Council approve a request to change the street name of Graham Avenue to
Corwin Avenue within the Moses Brothers Subdivision and Minnequa Addition
Subdivision?
RECOMMENDATION
The Planning and Zoning Commission, at their July 9, 2008 Regular Meeting, voted 6-0
to recommend approval.
The Department of Transportation is requesting to rename the existing street, Graham
Avenue to Corwin Avenue. According to the City Traffic Engineer, Pepper Whittlef,
Graham Avenue is a duplicate street name that has existed for many years. Once the
new 911 - software conversion is completed the duplicate streets could cause a great
deal of confusion for first responders.
Graham Avenue is located two blocks south of Northern Avenue, between Jackson
Street and Lake Avenue. Graham Avenue does not have any property owners with
addresses along the street and is relatively short in comparison to the other Graham
Avenue; therefore, it was chosen as the candidate for renaming.
ANCIAL IMPACT
None.
