BY Vera Ortegon Councilperson PROVE . i I 11 l F'erf runui A STi ECG Iay, INTRODUCED June 23, 2008 PASSED AND APPROVED: July 14, 2008 O 135 0 Background Paper for Proposed ORDINANCE DATE: June 23, 2008 DEPARTMENT: PUEBLO TRANSIT DANIEL E. CENTA, P.E. DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS TITLE AGENDA ITEM # 'i 33 AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND ACCEPTING A GRANT AGREEMENT # CO -90- X171-00 BETWEEN PUEBLO, A MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, BUDGETING AND APPROPRIATING THE ADDITIONAL AMOUNT OF $135,103 FOR TRANSIT OPERATING EXPENSES, AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF CITY COUNCIL TO EXECUTE SAME ISSUE Should the City Council enter into a Grant Agreement with the United States of America for Federal Transit Administration Grant Award # CO- 90- X171 -00 in the amount of $1,694,299 for FY 2008 Transit Operating expenditures RECOMMENDATION Approval of Ordinance BACKGROUND The City has been allocated a Federal Operating Grant # CO- 90- X171 -00 FY 2008, funding in the amount of $1,694,299. These funds are intended to subsidize Pueblo Transit's operating expenses incurred during this fiscal year. FINANCIAL IMPACT The Federal share of this grant is $1,694,299, which is $135,103 higher than the estimated amount in the approved Pueblo Transit's 2008 budget. However the City's local match budgeted for 2008 is $1,762,282, an amount higher than was estimated to be necessary to match the federal grant. The City's overmatching of this grant was due to an increase in the Citi -Lift Contract for FY 2008. Because additional funds from the City's General fund are already included in the Pueblo Transit's 2008 budget, no additional match will be needed to meet the requirements of this increased operating grant.
