HomeMy WebLinkAbout07766ORDINANCE NO. 7766 AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A MUTUAL AID MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND THE CITY OF PUEBLO, A MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF CITY COUNCIL TO EXECUTE SAME BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. The Memorandum of Understanding, dated October 10, 2007, between the Colorado Department of Corrections and the City of Pueblo, a Municipal Corporation, relating to authority to enforce state laws upon the grounds and buildings of the State Correctional Facilities, a true copy of which is attached hereto, having been approved as to form by the City Attorney, is hereby approved. SECTION 2_ The President of the City Council is hereby authorized to execute the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of Pueblo, a Municipal Corporation. TITLE AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A MUTUAL AID MEMORANDUM OF UNDER- STANDING BETWEEN THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND THE CITY OF PUEBLO, A MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF CITY COUNCIL TO EXECUTE SAME ISSUE Whether to approve the Memorandum of Understanding relating to authority of Pueblo Police Officers to enforce state laws upon the grounds and buildings of the State Correctional Facilities. RECOMMENDATION The department recommends approval of this resolution BACKGROUND The mutual agreement concept, which utilizes an interagency approach involving the law enforcement and public safety community, is necessary for the public safety of the citizens of Pueblo, and to provide for the prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, the protection of persons and property within the city and the enforcement of state laws and City ordinances. The Pueblo Police Department, along with the Colorado State Patrol, have been granted concurrent authority to enforce state laws on the grounds and in the buildings of the State Correctional Facilities in Pueblo. FINANCIAL IMPACT There is no financial cost to the City
