CP0504 — EL CENTRO DEL QUINTO SOL RECREATION CENTER ADA IMPROVEMENTS AND BUDGETING AND APPROPRIATING FOR SAME ISSUE Should City Council transfer funds in the amount of $100,000 from the Conservation Trust Fund into Project No. CP0504 — El Centro del Quinto Sol Recreation Center ADA Improvements and budget and appropriate for same. RECOMMENDATION Approval of this Ordinance. BACKGROUND On April 9, 2007, City Council approved a Resolution awarding a construction contract to T.L. Printz Constructors to remove the west addition of the El Centro del Quinto Sol Recreation Center and construct a new addition and other interior remodeling to accommodate ADA requirements. The Architect did not indicate asbestos to be an issue, however, prior to the start of demolition, it was discovered that many of the interior surface materials did contain asbestos. To comply with State and Federal regulations, the City must hire an asbestos abatement contractor to properly remove and dispose of the hazardous material so that the scope of work of the original contract may proceed. To expedite the project, we will proceed with removal immediately. FINANCIAL IMPACT The total cost for asbestos removal to accommodate this project is estimated at approximately $100,000. The funding required to complete this project will betaken from previous year's Conservation Trust Fund monies.
