ISSUE

on the half -cent sales tax for the purchase of a new records management software system for the
Fire Department?
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of the Ordinance
BACKGROUND
The 2007 budget includes $896,747 for acquisition and implementation of new public safety
computer systems. $100,000 of that appropriation was planned for the Fire Department's
incident report system and associated software. (The remaining $796,747 was planned for new
Police Department software and Computer Aided Dispatch [CAD] software used by both the
Police and Fire Departments).
After conducting a competitive process for the purpose of evaluating options for a new system,
representatives from the Fire Department and the Information Technology Department are
prepared to recommend that the City acquire Fire Department software, hardware, and
implementation that will cost a total of $155,000. An additional appropriation of $55,000 is
needed to fully fund that acquisition.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Project C1 Police /Fire Software System, was appropriated the amount of $896,747. Of
this amount, $796,747 is for the purchase of the police software systems, with the remaining
$100,000 available for the fire department software. An additional $55,0000 is needed to
complete the purchase, installation and implementation of the new Fire Department software.
These funds are available from the interest earned on the half -cent sales tax, which may be
spent for capital needs of the City.
