AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 17 OF CHAPTER 1 OF TITLE IV OF THE PUEBLO
MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSEES AND
REGISTRANTS IN CONSTRUCTION BUSINESSES OR FOR CONSTRUCTION WORK
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO that: (Brackets indicate matter to
be deleted; underscoring indicates matter to be added.)
SECTION 1.
Section 17 of Chapter 1, Title IV of the Pueblo Municipal Code, as amended, is amended to
read as follows:
Sec. 4 -1 -17. Insurance requirements.
(a) Before any license or registration shall be issued to engage in the
construction business or to perform construction work, an applicant shall file with the
Building Official a certificate of Commercial General Liability insurance with personal injury
and property damage limits at a combined single limit of not less than [five] two hundred
fib thousand dollars [$500,000] $250,000 per occurrence and [one million] five hundred
thousand dollars [$1,000,000] $500,000 aggregate. In addition, before any such license or
registration is issued, the applicant shall file proof that the applicant has obtained Workers'
Compensation Insurance as required by and in accordance with the laws of the State.
(b) Such insurance certificates shall include the policy number(s), the name of
the applicant, the effective and expiration dates, the limits of such policies and a description
of coverage by the insurance carrier. The Pueblo Regional Building Department shall be
listed as the certificate holder.
SECTION 2.
This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final passage and approval, and
shall apply to all applications for licenses or registrations, all renewals of licenses and registrations,
and all renewals of insurance policies on existing licenses and registrations, made after its effective
date.

Should the proposed Ordinance be approved?
RECOMMENDATION
The proposed Ordinance should be approved.
BACKGROUND
After expressed concerns from the construction community, we investigated the matter with the
City Attorney and found the changes proposed to the minimum amounts for insurance required
for contractors was adequate.

None.
