AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND ACCEPTING COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION FUNDING FOR THE 2005 "CHECKPOINT COLORADO" CAMPAIGN, AND
APPLICABLE CONDITIONS PERTAINING THERETO, ESTABLISHING PROJECT NUMBER
PD0503, BUDGETING AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS NOT TO EXCEED THE AMOUNT OF
$24,900.00, AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO EXECUTE SAME
WHEREAS, the City Council of Pueblo has the authority on behalf of the City of Pueblo,
including its Police Department, to accept funding from the State of Colorado for public and municipal
purposes and to enter into agreements relating thereto, and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Department of Transportation has tendered a 2005 "Checkpoint
Colorado' funding Award (the "Award ") that will not exceed the amount of $24,900.00 upon conditions
recited therein or incorporated therein by reference; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of the Award for the purposes for which it has been made is in the
best interest of the City and will benefit the health, welfare and safety of the citizens of the City; now,
therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
The Awarding of the "Checkpoint Colorado" funding to the City of Pueblo is hereby accepted
and approved effective as of June 13, 2005.
SECTION 2.
Funds not to exceed the amount of $24,900.00 are hereby budgeted and appropriated in
Project Number PD0503 and shall only be expended and used for this Project.

ISSUE
Should the City of Pueblo accept 2005 CDOT "Checkpoint Colorado" funding on behalf
of the Police Department not to exceed the amount of $24,900.00?
RECOMMENDATION
The Department recommends approval to continue DUI enforcement efforts.
BACKGROUND
This funding will allow the Police Department to increase its efforts in DUI enforcement
with DUI checkpoints over a 14 -week period between Memorial Day and Labor Day
2005. All overtime costs for officers involved in this effort will be paid with Checkpoint
Colorado funds. Community awareness efforts will continue through continued
collaboration with the Pueblo DriveSmart coalition.

There is no match required for this grant.
