TITLE
AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE BUDGET AND APPROPRIATION OF
FUNDS IN THE SEIZED PROPERTY ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT OF $89,000
FOR USE AND BENEFIT OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
ISSUE
Whether to allow the purchase of undercover cars for the Police Department.
RECOMMENDATION
The department recommends approval of this ordinance.
BACKGROUND
The current vehicles being used by undercover officers are well known by
community members. These officers are in contact with members of the criminal
community. Their vehicles have been identified and are known by this faction.
The new vehicles will enable them to conduct surveillance and operations without
being identified.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The funds in the Seized Property Account are confiscated funds from drag
arrests. The Colorado Revised Statutes stipulates that the funds are to be used
for the benefit of the police department. The City has received these funds.
