HomeMy WebLinkAbout07283ORDINANCE NO. 7283 AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE BUDGET AND APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS IN THE SEIZED PROPERTY ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT OF $89,000 FOR USE AND BENEFIT OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, funds are available in the Seized Property Account for the use and benefit of the police department, and WHEREAS, the police department is in need of certain items to maintain the safety and efficiency of its officers, and WHEREAS, the committee on disposition of forfeited property has approved such use of funds; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. Funds in the amount of $89,000 are hereby budgeted and appropriated out of the Seized Property Fund for the use and benefit of the police department. SECTION 2. Appropriated funds will be used to purchase undercover cars for the police department. RECOMMENDATION The department recommends approval of this ordinance. BACKGROUND The current vehicles being used by undercover officers are well known by community members. These officers are in contact with members of the criminal community. Their vehicles have been identified and are known by this faction. The new vehicles will enable them to conduct surveillance and operations without being identified. FINANCIAL IMPACT The funds in the Seized Property Account are confiscated funds from drag arrests. The Colorado Revised Statutes stipulates that the funds are to be used for the benefit of the police department. The City has received these funds.
