TITLE
AN ORDINANCE ABOLISHING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION,
TRANSFERRING THE REMAINING BUDGET OF THE ADMINISTRATION AND
TRAFFIC ENGINEERING DIVISIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND TRANSFERRING THE REMAINING
BUDGET OF THE COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
ISSUE
With the retirement of Public Works Department Director, Tom Cvar, City Administration
is recommending some restructuring of various City departments. Because of the close
interaction of traffic engineering with the other Public Works functions, the traffic
engineering functions of the current Department of Transportation will become a division
under the Bureau of Public Works. The Communications Division of the current
Department of Transportation will be transferred to the Department of Information
Technology. Because of the interaction with existing IT staff and the technological
changes involving computers and the City's radio network, it will create greater
efficiencies, from a City-wide standpoint for communications among all City departments,
to put the existing communications employees under the direction of the Department of
Information Technology.
RECOMMENDATION
Approval if the ordinance.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact as all budgets have been appropriated in the 2004 budget
and will be transferred to the appropriate department.
