INTRODUCED June 14, 2004 DATE: JUNE 14, 2004 DEPARTMENT: WASTEWATER DEPARTMENT GENE MICHAEL, DIRECTOR TITLE AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $26,542.00 FROM THE SEWER USER FUND AND APPROVING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PUEBLO AND SATELLITE SHELTERS, INC. FOR THE PURCHASE OF A SEVEN - OFFICE MODULAR BUILDING ISSUE Should the City Council approve a purchase agreement between the City of Pueblo and Satellite Shelters, Inc. for the purchase of a seven -office modular building? RECOMMENDATION Approval of this Resolution. BACKGROUND Elements of the Public Works Department, the Wastewater Utility Department, the Stormwater Utility Department, the Planning Department, and the Land Use Department occupy the municipal office building located at 211 East "D" Street. The building houses 32 employees in approximately 3,060 square feet of office space. With the creation in 2003 of the Stormwater Utility Department, and with authorized staff expansion in the Planning and Land Use Departments, a number of employees are sharing workspace and there is insufficient space to perform their duties efficiently. The reception and meeting areas for conferences with private citizens and businesses are inadequate. Within the next six months, three additional employees including a new Land Use Planner, the GIS Coordinator from Information Technologies, and the Deputy Public Works Director will require office space at Public Works. A modular office building will provide temporary relief for the overcrowding by adding 1,366 square feet of space for seven additional offices, as well as additional restrooms, storage, and meeting area. FINANCIAL IMPACT Funds for this project will come from the Sewer User Fund. Funding in the amount of $100,000 was appropriated in the 2004 budget based on an estimated cost for the project. An additional $26,542.00 is appropriated by this ordinance to cover the cost of the actual purchase price for the modular building. A bid summary showing the bids received from vendors is attached.
