AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CIVIL SERVICE RULE 18(d) OF CHAPTER 13 OF TITLE VI OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PUEBLO REGARDING THE TIMING OF
EXAMINATIONS FOR DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF, DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF AND POLICE CAPTAIN
WHEREAS, it is not necessary to give examinations for the ranks of Deputy Fire Chief,
Deputy Police Chief and Police Captain on an annual basis since vacancies in those ranks do not
occur with the nearly same frequency as vacancies in lower ranks in the Fire and Police services;
and
WHEREAS, giving such examinations on an annual basis costs several thousand dollars
which could better be expended elsewhere;
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1
Civil Service Rule 18(d) of Chapter 13 of Title VI of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Pueblo is
hereby amended to read as follows: [brackets indicate matter being deleted; underscoring

Rule 18. Examinations; general
(d) Time of Examinations. Regular promotional examinations for which there are applicants
shall be given at least once a year [for Fire and Police Departments and as vacancies occur or as
the Commission shall direct in other departments. Such examinations shall be given] at times to
be determined by the Commission for all ranks in the uniformed Fire and Police services, except
for Deputy Fire Chief, Deputy Police Chief and Police Captain All other e[
and special examinations shall be given when necessary as determined by the Commission or at
the request of the City Manager, and shall be scheduled at times determined by the Commission
but in no event more than sixty (60) days after a request for such examination has been given by
the City Manager.
SECTION 2
This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final passage.
