HomeMy WebLinkAbout06653ORDINANCE NO. 6653 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CIVIL SERVICE RULE 32 OF CHAPTER 13 OF TITLE VI OF THE 1971 CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE OF THE CITY OF PUEBLO TO INCLUDE A PROCEDURE FOR THE CERTIFICATION OF FIVE NAMES FOR FILLING VACANCIES IN OPEN CLASSES IN THE CITY OF PUEBLO CLASSIFIED SERVICE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO that: (brackets indicate matter being deleted; underscoring indicates matter being added) SECTION 1. Civil Service Rule 32 of Chapter 13 of Title VI of the 1971 Code of Ordinances is hereby amended by the addition of new subsections (f) and (g) to read as follows: Rule 32. Certification of eligibles; number certified. (a) When a vacancy in any position is to be filled from an eligible list, the Commission upon request of the Director shall certify the names of the three (3) persons ranking highest on the appropriate list. If any person so certified fails to accept, qualify for or meet any requirement of the position, the Commission upon request of the Director shall certify one (1) additional name for each such person. (b) If more than one (1) appointment is to be made from any eligible list, the Commission upon request of the Director shall certify for the second and each subsequent vacancy one (1) additional name for each such vacancy. (c) If at any time the Commission is unable to comply with a request for certification of three (3) persons from an existing eligible list, the Commission shall establish a new eligible list for the class pursuant to Civil Service Rule 29, unless the City Manager authorizes an appointment from the existing list. (d) Each appointment from an eligible list to any position in the classified service shall be filled by a person certified by the Commission pursuant to this Rule. (e) Names shall be certified from eligible lists in the rank order in which they appear on such lists. �f Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (a) above, when a vacancy in a position in the classified service is to be filled through the procedure set out in section 6- 8 -6(6) of the Code of Ordinances, the Commission upon request of the Director shall certify the names of the five (5) persons ranking highest on the appropriate list. If any person so certified fails to accept, qualify for or meet any requirement of the position, the Commission upon request of the Director shall certify one (1) additional name for each such person. Lcjj Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (c) above, if at any time the Commission is unable to comply with a request for certification of five (5) persons from an existing eligible list for a vacancy in a position in the classified service which is to be filled through the procedure set out in section 6- 8 -6(6) of the Code of Ordinances, the Commission shall establish a new eligible list for the class pursuant to Civil Service Rule 29, unless the Citv Manager authorizes an appointment from the existing list. SECTION 2. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final passage and shall apply to all certifications made after the date of final passage. INTRODUCED January 22, 2001.
