AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 10 OF TITLE IV OF
THE PUEBLO MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE
NUMBERING OF BUILDINGS
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
(Brackets indicate matter being deleted; underscoring indicates new matter being added.)
SECTION 1
Section 3 of Chapter 10, Title IV of the Pueblo Municipal Code is amended to read as
follows:
Section 4 -10 -3 [Decimal system.] Numbering System.
[The decimal system of numbering houses is hereby adopted, and one hundred (100)
numbers shall be assigned to each block, and one (1) number shall be used for a frontage of each
twenty -five (25) feet. Where, however, the lots have a frontage of forty -four (44) feet, one (1)
number shall be assigned to each twenty -two (22) feet.] The address numbering system shall have
a point of reference of First Street and Main Street in the City of Pueblo. From that point of
reference, a grid system will be followed using latitude and longitude.
SECTION 2
Section 4 of Chapter 10, Title IV of the Pueblo Municipal Code is deleted in its entirety.
[Section 4 -10 -4. Division of City.
(a) In that portion of the present City that prior to April 19, 1886, constituted the former
City of Pueblo, First Street shall be the base or dividing line for streets running north and south, and
Santa Fe Avenue the base line for streets running east and west. in that portion of the City former
constituting the Town of Central Pueblo, numbering shall commence at the river for streets running
in a northerly direction, and Union Avenue shall be the base line for streets running easterly and
westerly. In what was formerly South Pueblo, excepting the Mesa and Corona Park, numbering shall
commence at the old channel of the Arkansas River on streets running in a southerly direction, and
Union and Colorado Avenues shall be the base line for easterly and westerly streets.
(b) In each block in Corona Park, numbering shall commence at such point in the block
as the Director of Public Works may decide upon, shall commence with No. 1 and shall proceed in
numerical order throughout the block. Every lot having a frontage of less than fifty (50) feet shall
be assigned one (1) number. Lots having a frontage of fifty (50) feet shall be assigned two (2)
numbers and an additional number for each additional twenty -five (25) feet of frontage.
(c) On the Mesa, and in that area formerly known as Uplands Park and Bessemer,
Goodnight Avenue shall be the base line for streets running in a northerly and southerly direction
and Cleveland Street for streets running in a westerly direction. On Central Main Street, numbering
shall commence at the old river channel on either side and proceed to the terminus at either end.
South of the Bessemer Ditch, Box Elder Street shall be the base line for streets running in an easterly
or westerly direction. The even numbers shall be placed on the right hand side of the street, starting
from the base line.]
SECTION 3
Section 5 of Chapter 10, Title IV of the Pueblo Municipal Code is amended to read as
follows:
Section 4- 10 -[5]4 Official responsible; notice to owner.
The numbering of houses [on the above plan] shall be under the supervision and control of
the [Director of Public Works] Building•. Official The [Director of Public Works] Building Official
is authorized and directed to notify the owner and occupant of any change of a building number.
Any person who is the owner or occupant of any building in the City who shall fail, refuse or
neglect, for the period of ten (10) days after notice upon him or her by an officer of the Police
Department, to number such building in accordance with such notice, shall be subject to a penalty
as provided in Section 1 -2 -1 of this Code. Such notice shall assign the proper number to be placed
upon the building by the owner or occupant thereof and shall also give specific directions as to all
requirements in respect to such numbering.
SECTION 4
This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final passage and approval.
