HomeMy WebLinkAbout10738 City Clerk's Office Item # R1 Background Paper for Proposed Ordinance COUNCIL MEETING DATE: July 22, 2024 TO: President Mark Aliff and Members of City Council CC: Mayor Heather Graham VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk FROM: Scott Hobson, Acting Director Planning and Community Development SUBJECT: AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE STREET NAME OF VISION HILLS PARKWAY TO CARL SITTER PARKWAY SUMMARY: The City is requesting to change the name of Vision Hills Parkway to Carl Sitter Parkway generally located east of Jerry Murphy Road north of Walking Stick Golf Course. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: The City is concurrently requesting the change the name of Tobias T Avenue to William Crawford Avenue (SNC-24-02) and Dockum Road to Warren Dockum Road (SNC-24- 03). BACKGROUND: The City is requesting this Street Name Change, in tandem with two other name complement the existing streets, Jerry Murphy and Drew Dix, all of which will have their street signs outfitted with new Medal of Honor Signs that reference which war the veteran is being honored for. Carl Sitter was a Marine Corps officer and Medal of Honor recipient during the Korean War who grew up in Pueblo and attended Central High School in the 1930s. Vision Hills Parkway (proposed Carl Sitter Parkway) extends east from Jerry Murphy Road to the eastern boundary of North Vista Highlands, Filing No. 1 subdivision. No properties are currently addressed on this street, so staff anticipates no issues with the proposal. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: There are no financial implications for the City. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: The Planning and Zoning Commission, at their June 12th, 2024 Regular Meeting, voted 7-0 to recommend approval. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: None. ALTERNATIVES: If City Council does not approve this Ordinance, the current street name would remain. RECOMMENDATION: Approval of the Ordinance. ATTACHMENTS: 1. The street known as Vision Hills Parkway is hereby changed to Carl Sitter Parkway. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of the Ordinance to implement the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final action by the Mayor and City Council.
