Payment in the amount of $2,000 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2024 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Genealogical Society of Hispanic America dba Fray Angelico Chavez Chapter to sponsor the Annual Meeting at Colorado State University Pueblo on XX. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: City Council Member Sarah Martinez is requesting $2,000 to support the Annual Conference, "History in Our Own Backyard," at Colorado State University Pueblo from September 27-29, 2024. National Genealogical Society of Hispanic America will be in Pueblo for its annual meeting hosted by the local chapter. About 220 people are expected to attend from California, Utah, New Mexico and throughout Colorado. Events will be based out of Colorado State University Pueblo with extra outings to the Pueblo Heritage Museum, El Pueblo History Museum, and a field trip to the Battlefield of De Anza and Cuerno Verde. The purpose of the GSHA is to promote Hispanic genealogical and historical research and education, and to expand awareness and knowledge of Hispanic culture, history and traditions. GSHA's objectives are to promote the sharing and dissemination of genealogical research and information, to create mutual support for genealogical research, to promote and maintain communication with the Hispanic community and with other societies and organizations which provide genealogical and historical information, to educate and encourage its members and the public to share information and to create support for genealogical research and appropriate documentation. The Genealogical Society of Hispanic America (GSHA) publishes Nuestras Raíces (Our Roots), a quarterly journal for our members as a benefit of membership. Nuestras Raíces provides in-depth informative articles related to Hispano genealogy, history, culture, and traditions. The event is open to the public and will be held at the Colorado State University Pueblo and the Pueblo Heritage Museum. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Payment of funds in the amount of $2,000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2024 General Fund Budget to the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America dba Fray Angelico Chavez Chapter.
