HomeMy WebLinkAbout15649RESOLUTION NO. 15649 THIS RESOLUTION ACCEPTS THE RESIGNATION OF CHARLES HERNANDEZ AS AN AT-LARGE CITY COUNCILOR. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that SECTION 1. The resignation of Charles Hernandez as an at-large City Councilor is hereby accepted. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform all acts consistent with this Resolution to implement the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon final passage. SUMMARY: This Resolution accepts the resignation of Charles Hernandez as an at-large City Councilor and sets forth the process for determining his replacement. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: On May 18, 2024, Charles Hernandez submitted his resignation from his at-large position on City Council. His resignation creates a vacancy which must be filled. Per Section 2-6 of the City Charter, any vacancy in an elective office shall be filled by appointment of the Council. Any person appointed to fill a vacancy in an elective office shall have the qualifications required of persons regularly elected and shall hold the office until the next general municipal election, when the vacancy shall be filled by election according to law and until his successor is qualified. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: None. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: None. ALTERNATIVES: City Council may accept letters of interest and resumes from any qualified resident of the City of Pueblo interested in filling this position. Details regarding the process can be posted on the Ci In the alternative, City Council may choose to immediately appoint someone they believe meets the qualifications of the vacant office without soliciting letters of interest and resumes.
