the General Fund, and budgets and appropriates total funds in the amount of

PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION
The City Council approved Ordinance No. 10630 on January 10, 2024, approving the
renaming of the U.S. Highway 50 Bypass to "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass".
BACKGROUND:
This project will include the fabrication and installation of six street name signs to be
installed by the City along US-50B at Hudson/Bonforte, Norwood, and Troy. The
project will also fabricate and install two supplemental signs designating the highway as
"Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass" between I-25 and the junction with CO-47/CO-96.
As part of its I-25/US-50B interchange replacement project, CDOT will be replacing the
existing highway signage on I-25. The new signage to be installed will refer to US-50B
by its new name. That project is expected to start this year.
The proposed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. bypass is a prominent I-25 interchange within
the City and is a gateway for motorists traveling into Pueblo from the east. This section
of highway, which has over 10,000 vehicle trips per day, is utilized by motorists
traveling to the Pueblo Memorial Airport and the Pueblo Memorial Airport Industrial
Park.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funds in the amount of $40,000.00 will be transferred from the unappropriated fund
balance of the General Fund and budgeted and appropriated into the newly-created
project account.
