SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AWARDING A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT IN THE
AMOUNT OF $442,320 TO EVOQUA WATER TECHNOLOGY, LLC.
FOR THE DISSOLVED AIR FLOATATION THICKENER (DAFT)
REPAIR, FROM ACCOUNT WWAN04 AT THE JAMES R. DIIORIO
WATER RECLAMATION FACILITY AND APPROVING THE
XECUTION OF THE SAME.
SUMMARY:
This Resolution awards a construction contract to Evoqua Water Technology LLC. from
account WWAN04 for the Dissolved Air Floatation Thickener (DAFT) repair at the
James R. DiIorio Water Reclamation Facility.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None
BACKGROUND:
The James R. DiIorio Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) treats all the wastewater for
the City of Pueblo. The dissolved air floatation thickener (DAFT) receives solids from
the three secondary clarifiers. The DAFT is split into two separate tanks. Tank #1
needs to be repaired due to a broken bottom collector chain. The DAFT system is
currently running on one side (Tank #2) and if this side happens to go down due to a
failure, this would put the WRF in jeopardy of a permit violation. Tank #2 was repaired
as an emergency project earlier this year by Evoqua Water Technology LLC., and tank
the same.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The construction project repair proposal was $442,320. Funds are available from the
Sewer User Fund and appropriated from account WWAN04. This project is sole
sourced based on the compatibility with tank #2 as the overriding factor.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
Not applicable
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
None
ALTERNATIVES:
If not approved, the DAFT tank would stay in a state of disrepair and could potentially
cause a violation of our discharge permit requirements.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Resolution.
