SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL
CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2024 GENERAL FUND BUDGET
TO THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF PUEBLO IN THE AMOUNT OF
$1,000 TO SPONSOR THE PLACE COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY ON
TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2024 FROM 4-7 PM ON ORMAN AVENUE
SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a request for support of The PLACE community block
party on April 30, 2024 in the amount of $1,000.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
Council funded this event with $1,000 in 2023.
BACKGROUND:
We believe instilling that Pueblo Pride was necessary to help remind us what a
beautiful city we live in and despite the less than 1% that have made poor choices
resulting in negativity, we know the other 99% are great people who would welcome
positive interaction with our neighbors and additional information on supportive
resources including pathways for our 1%.
We named the event The PLACE (Pueblo's Legacy and Community Experiences) and
our first event was on the Eastside, East 7th Street, on May 9, 2023. After a successful
event attracting over 65 resource agencies and 1,000 citizens, we held another event
on the Westside, (Hyde Park community) on September 26, 2023 with similar success.
Our mission is to invigorate the pride and love for our different neighborhoods and
celebrate the beauty of our community. We would achieve three objectives:
(1) To create a safe place for networking with neighbors and families together and
increase the pride and love for our community (2) To provide career opportunities and
exploration for participants and (3) To provide knowledge of resources and area
businesses to strengthen the needs of our community.
This event will be on Orman Avenue, on the block between Keating and Central High
School.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Payment of funds in the amount of $1,000 would be paid from the Council
Contingencies Account in the 2024 General Fund Budget to the Boys & Girls Club of
Pueblo.
