A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE
COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2024 GENERAL
FUND BUDGET TO JUNETEENTH ORGANIZATION OF
PUEBLO IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000 TO SPONSOR THE 2024
JUNETEENTH EVENT AND COMMEMORATIVE JOURNAL
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that
SECTION 1.
Payment in the amount of $1,000 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2024
General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Juneteenth Organization of Pueblo to sponsor
the 2024 Juneteenth event and commemorative journal.
SECTION 2.
The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent
with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

$1,000 TO SPONSOR THE 2024 JUNETEENTH EVENT AND
COMMEMORATIVE JOURNAL
SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a request for support of the Juneteenth Organization of
Pueblo in the amount of $1,000 to sponsor their 2024 events and commemorative
journal.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
Council funded this Organization with $1,000 in 2020, 2016, and 2015. Payment from
Council Contingencies was made of $2,000 in 2014 and 2013. Prior to 2013, the
Juneteenth Organization was funded through a line item in the budget.
BACKGROUND:
The Juneteenth Celebration is held to remember and celebrate the freedom of African

Americans resulting from passage of the 13 amendment to the US constitution. It is
the mission of the Juneteenth Organization of Pueblo to bring all Puebloans together to
remember and celebrate the heritage of African Americans and their freedom. In our
quest of perfecting unity in our community, as citizens concerned with human dignity
and community development, to implement programs that address the needs of all of
pueblo's ethnic communities, to bring all Puebloans together .to celebrate a common
bond of freedom. As all our "Ancestors" at some point in time have seen prejudice
and/or have been discriminated against in our community, state and country and have
overcome. For this event they are publishing a souvenir journal to commemorate the
2024 celebration. They are a 501c3 non-profit organization, committed to educating the
community of the meaning of the Juneteenth celebration.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Payment of funds in the amount of $1,000 would be paid from the Council
Contingencies Account in the 2024 General Fund Budget to Juneteenth Organization in
Pueblo.

ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose.
RECOMMENDATION:
This Resolution is at the request of Council Member Dennis Flores.
