A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE LEGISLATIVE PROCEDURES
AND RULES OF THE PUEBLO CITY COUNCIL TO IMPLEMENT
PARENTAL LEAVE FOR CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to amend the Legislative Procedures and Rules of
Council to allow for the creation of a Parental Leave of Absence policy for members of the City
Council; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that
SECTION 1.
Rule 33 of the Legislative Procedures and Rules of Council is amended as follows:
33.1 Parental Leave.
Parental leave shall be considered a reasonable excuse for absence from attendance at
tee meetings. Any
member of the City Council, upon written notice to the President of the City Council, may
meetings for purposes of parental leave for a maximum of six weeks. Upon request,
Parental leave may be extended in excess of the maximum period set forth herein unless
such extension of leave is found to be unreasonable by a majority vote of the entire
membership of the City Council.
SECTION 2.
The officers of the City are authorized and directed to perform any and all acts
consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described
herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon final passage.

SUMMARY:
This Resolution approves an amendment to the Pueblo Municipal Code, Appendix A
allowing members of the City Council to be excused from regular Council meetings,
weeks with the ability to extend parental leave in excess of the maximum period, unless
such extension of leave is found to be unreasonable by a majority vote of the entire
membership of the City Council.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Pueblo does not currently have an excused absence for parental leave
policy for members of the City Council.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
Not applicable to this Ordinance.
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
Not applicable to this Ordinance.
ALTERNATIVES:
The City Council could not adopt this policy and treat absences due to parental leave
as a reasonable excuse unless such absence is found to be unreasonable by a majority
vote of the entire membership of the City Council.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Resolution.
