HomeMy WebLinkAbout15546RESOLUTION NO. 15546 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2024 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO LATINO CHAMBER DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,500 TO SPONSOR A TABLE AT THE PUEBLO LATINO VETERANS PROFILES IN COURAGE EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 28, 2024, AT 5 PM IN THE PUEBLO CONVENTION CENTER BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that SECTION 1. Payment in the amount of $1,500 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2024 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Latino Chamber Development Foundation to sponsor the Pueblo Latino Veterans Profiles in Courage event on September 2, 2024, at 5 pm in the Pueblo Convention Center. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Council supported this event for $2,000 in 2022 and $1,500 in 2023. BACKGROUND: During National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Pueblo Latino Veterans Profiles in Courage (LVPIC) Committee recognizes Pueblo Latino Veterans for their courage to country, community and other veterans. Next year will be the Ninth Annual Latino Veterans Profiles in Courage Awards Ceremony at the Pueblo Convention Center on September 28. 2024. Over 150 people attended last years Annual Pueblo Latino Veterans Profiles in Courage Awards Ceremony. We honored five veterans serving our country and one posthumously in the Air Force; other awardees served in the Marines. Army and Navy. We continue to hear favorable comments from awardees and their families that it was an emotional and heartwarming event. Members of the Pueblo Latino Veterans Profiles in Courage Committee include: Laura Sandoval Adams, George Autobee, Gloria Gutierrez, Sal Katz, Betty Martinez, Jose Ramirez, Chris Robles, Nick Romero, Antonio Serna, Mike Sexton. To date we have awarded 44 individuals with the Latino Veterans Profiles in Courage Awards since 2015, and we are requesting your sponsorship for this important project in 2024. Our long term goal is to build a Latino Veterans Memorial to record the names of all our awardees so that there is a legacy for their family and community members to know about their courageous service to our country, community, and other veterans. This Awards Ceremony is our only fundraiser and all proceeds will go to building a Latino Veterans Memorial. Although we are not a 501c3 the Latino Chamber Foundation serves as our fiscal agent. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Funds in the amount of $1,500 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2024 General Fund Budget to the Latino Chamber Development Foundation.
