SUMMARY:

Profiles in Courage event on September 28, 2024, at 5 pm in the Pueblo Convention
Center in the amount of $1,500.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
Council supported this event for $2,000 in 2022 and $1,500 in 2023.
BACKGROUND:
During National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Pueblo Latino Veterans Profiles in
Courage (LVPIC) Committee recognizes Pueblo Latino Veterans for their courage to
country, community and other veterans. Next year will be the Ninth Annual Latino
Veterans Profiles in Courage Awards Ceremony at the Pueblo Convention Center on
September 28. 2024.
Over 150 people attended last years Annual Pueblo Latino Veterans Profiles in
Courage Awards Ceremony. We honored five veterans serving our country and one
posthumously in the Air Force; other awardees served in the Marines. Army and Navy.
We continue to hear favorable comments from awardees and their families that it was
an emotional and heartwarming event.
Members of the Pueblo Latino Veterans Profiles in Courage Committee include: Laura
Sandoval Adams, George Autobee, Gloria Gutierrez, Sal Katz, Betty Martinez, Jose
Ramirez, Chris Robles, Nick Romero, Antonio Serna, Mike Sexton.
To date we have awarded 44 individuals with the Latino Veterans Profiles in Courage
Awards since 2015, and we are requesting your sponsorship for this important project
in 2024. Our long term goal is to build a Latino Veterans Memorial to record the names
of all our awardees so that there is a legacy for their family and community members to
know about their courageous service to our country, community, and other veterans.
This Awards Ceremony is our only fundraiser and all proceeds will go to building a
Latino Veterans Memorial. Although we are not a 501c3 the Latino Chamber
Foundation serves as our fiscal agent.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funds in the amount of $1,500 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account
in the 2024 General Fund Budget to the Latino Chamber Development Foundation.
