Gradisar VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk FROM: Dennis Flores, Councilor SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2023 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO TEMPLE EMANUEL IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,000 TO SPONSOR THE BUILDING OF A WHEELCHAIR RAMP SUMMARY: Attached for consideration is a request for support of Temple Emanuel in the amount of $2,000 to sponsor the building of a wheelchair ramp. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: Temple Emanuel was founded in 1900 and is on the National Registry for Historical Places. It received this designation in 1996. It has long been the congregation’s goal to have a ramp built to accommodate the public seeking to enter the synagogue. A ramp would not only be beneficial for individuals in wheelchairs and those unable to negotiate stairs, but also a safety issue. It would allow faster egress in the event of a fire or an attack that has become more common on houses of worship. In 2021 the congregation started the process of securing a design that would complement the historical integrity of the building. The designs have been finished, and Temple Emanuel is in the process of securing funding for the $180,000+ project. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Funds in the amount of $2,000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2023 General Fund Budget to Temple Emanuel. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: N/A STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: N/A ALTERNATIVES: City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this purpose. RECOMMENDATION: This Resolution is at the request of Council Member Dennis Flores. ATTACHMENTS: 1. 2023 Contingencies (Council) Temple Emanuel 2. 12-11-23 Fund Request Temple Emanuel
