BACKGROUND:
Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is a Program funded by the U.S. Department of
Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance. PSN is designed to
create and foster safer neighborhoods through a sustained reduction in violent crime,
including, but not limited to, addressing criminal gangs and the felonious possession
and use of firearms. The program's effectiveness depends upon the ongoing
coordination, cooperation, and partnerships of local, state, tribal, and federal law
enforcement agencies--and the communities they serve--engaged in a unified approach
led by the U.S. Attorney in all 94 districts.
Shot Spotter® will enhance enhance the Real Time Crime Center capability to identify
and prosecute individuals perpetrating the most violent acts. The proposed
ShotSpotter® solution is designed to identify, locate, and track active gunfire, and will
support the Pueblo Police Department’s efforts to more effectively respond to and
investigate gunfire incidents. This strategy deployed across the country and serves
agencies of all sizes that are committed to leveraging real-time gunfire intelligence to
reduce gun violence and build community trust.
The proposed solution is aligned with the goals of Colorado’s PSN program as it fosters
collaboration with the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, and other state and federal

of Patrol when responding to gunfire; creates an opportunity for officers to respond
quickly to gun-related incidents; and supports community engagement efforts.
