SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a request for support of the 3rd Annual Pueblo Chile
Balloon Fest from September 22-24, 2023.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
Council sponsored this event for $2,500 in 2022.
BACKGROUND:
rd
City Council Member Heather Graham is requesting $2,500 in support of the 3 Annual
Pueblo Chile Balloon Fest from September 22-24, 2023. The Pueblo Chile & Frijoles
Festival has become a flagship event for the City of Pueblo. The recently added Balloon
Fest sees hot air balloons fly in the early morning, 7 am - 9 am, creating a longer and
greater experience for the locals and out-of-town visitors. The balloon festival also
draws a different crowd that might not attend the event otherwise. There is also a
balloon "glow" at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday as part of the festival attractions. Over
150,000 people attend the Chile & Frijole Festival over the 3 days spanning 10 city
blocks. Mayor Gradisar will use his contingencies to match this sponsorship for a total
of $5,000. The Greater Pueblo Chamber is acting as the fiscal sponsor for this event.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funds in the amount of $2,500 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account
in the 2023 General Fund Budget to the Pueblo Chamber.
