HomeMy WebLinkAbout15342RESOLUTION NO. 15342 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2023 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO THE PUEBLO CHAMBER IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500 TO SUPPORT THE 3RD ANNUAL PUEBLO CHILE BALLOON FEST ON SEPTEMBER 22-24, 2023 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that SECTION 1. Payment in the amount of $2,500 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2023 rd General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to the Pueblo Chamber for the 3 Annual Pueblo Chile Balloon Fest. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to implement the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval. Gradisar VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk FROM: Heather Graham, President SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2023 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO THE PUEBLO CHAMBER IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500 TO SUPPORT THE 3RD ANNUAL PUEBLO CHILE BALLOON FEST ON SEPTEMBER 22-24, 2023 SUMMARY: Attached for consideration is a request for support of the 3rd Annual Pueblo Chile Balloon Fest from September 22-24, 2023. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Council sponsored this event for $2,500 in 2022. BACKGROUND: rd City Council Member Heather Graham is requesting $2,500 in support of the 3 Annual Pueblo Chile Balloon Fest from September 22-24, 2023. The Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival has become a flagship event for the City of Pueblo. The recently added Balloon Fest sees hot air balloons fly in the early morning, 7 am - 9 am, creating a longer and greater experience for the locals and out-of-town visitors. The balloon festival also draws a different crowd that might not attend the event otherwise. There is also a balloon "glow" at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday as part of the festival attractions. Over 150,000 people attend the Chile & Frijole Festival over the 3 days spanning 10 city blocks. Mayor Gradisar will use his contingencies to match this sponsorship for a total of $5,000. The Greater Pueblo Chamber is acting as the fiscal sponsor for this event. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Funds in the amount of $2,500 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2023 General Fund Budget to the Pueblo Chamber. RECOMMENDATION: This Resolution is at the request of Council President Heather Graham.
