HomeMy WebLinkAbout15076RESOLUTION NO. 15076 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF FURTHER INVESTIGATION AND PLANNING CONCERNING THE FEASIBILITY OF CONSTRUCTING AN AUTOMATED TRANSIT NETWORK IN THE CITY OF PUEBLO WHEREAS, Automated Transit Networks (“ATN’s”) could provide for increased mobility (at lower costs) to Pueblo residents and could also promote increased environmental sustainability in our community. The City of Pueblo is faced with increasing traffic congestion and a lack of adequate parking, particularly in the City’s central business district. By and large, City residents are forced to use gasoline-powered vehicles for travel purposes within the City. Such vehicles not only contribute to global warming, but are also inefficient and more expensive both in terms of time and money; and WHEREAS, the technology for ATN’s already exists and is improving. ATN riders have traveled over 200 million injury-free miles. ATN systems are currently in operation in five different countries, including the USA; NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Pueblo supports further investigation and planning regarding the feasibility of constructing an automated transit network in the City. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with this Resolution to implement the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon final passage and approval.
