Gradisar VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk FROM: Andrew Hayes, Public Works Director SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF PUEBLO'S APPLICATION FOR THE FY2023 SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT PROGRAM SUMMARY: Attached is a Resolution supporting the City of Pueblo's application for the FY2023 Safe Routes to School Grant Program administered by the Colorado Department of Transportation. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: Colorado Safe Routes to School (SRTS) provides opportunities for communities to foster a safe environment for students by funding education and safe infrastructure and encourages safe and healthy transportation options for children that include biking and walking. The Monument Avenue corridor between East 12th Street and East 2nd Street is a thoroughfare with multiple schools and community facilities used by young students, including Risley International Academy of Innovation and Park View Elementary School. Other community facilities, including the Patrick A. Lucero Branch of the Pueblo City-County Library District, Mitchell Park, and Bradford Park are also located along the proposed project route. A project to provide upgraded multimodal transportation pathways for pedestrians and bicyclists transiting to and from these community facilities is proposed for design and construction if the City of Pueblo's grant application is successful. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Approval of this Resolution will not result in any direct financial implications to the City of Pueblo. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable to this Resolution. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: The Public Works Department is working with representatives from District 60 and other community members to secure resolutions and letters of support for the grant application. ALTERNATIVES: If Council does not pass this Resolution, the competitiveness and strength of the City's application may be negatively impacted. RECOMMENDATION: Approval of the Resolution.
