HomeMy WebLinkAbout15017 RESOLUTION NO. 15017 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2022 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO NAACP PUEBLO BRANCH IN THE AMOUNT OF $700 TO SUPPORT THE FREEDOM FUND BANQUET CELEBRATION ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2022, AT 6 PM BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that SECTION 1. Payment in the amount of $700 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2022 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to the NAACP Pueblo Branch for its October 15 fundraiser. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to implement the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval. Gradisar VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk FROM: Vicente Martinez Ortega, District 4 Representative SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2022 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO NAACP PUEBLO BRANCH IN THE AMOUNT OF $700 TO SUPPORT THE FREEDOM FUND BANQUET CELEBRATION ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2022, AT 6 PM SUMMARY: Attached for consideration is a request for support of the Freedom Fund Banquet Celebration fundraiser for the NAACP Pueblo Branch which will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2022. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: City Council sponsored this event annually since 2019. BACKGROUND: City Council Member Vicente Martinez Ortega is requesting $700 to sponsor a table at the Annual NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet. This year's event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Ivory Toldson. Dr. Toldson is the National NAACP Director of Education Innovation and Research. The goal of Pueblo National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to create a sense of community in the neighborhoods where people live and work. They hope that an increased sense of community will lead to more personal involvement and more cultural, educational and social activities, which will create a better community and a better place for us to live. The Pueblo NAACP branch was chartered in 1918. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Funds in the amount of $700 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2022 General Fund Budget to the NAACP Pueblo. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not Applicable. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not Applicable. ALTERNATIVES: City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this association. RECOMMENDATION: This Resolution is at the request of Council Member Vicente Martinez Ortega.
