HomeMy WebLinkAbout15020 RESOLUTION NO. 15020 A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE APPOINTMENT OF ALEXANDRIA A. ROMERO TO THE POSITION OF FINANCE DIRECTOR WHEREAS, Mayor Nicholas A. Gradisar has requested confirmation by the City Council of his appointment of Alexandria A. Romero to the vacant position of Finance Director; and WHEREAS, Ms. Romero meets and surpasses the qualifications for appointment as the Finance Director based upon his education, training, and experience; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that SECTION 1. The appointment by the Mayor of Alexandria A. Romero as Finance Director is hereby confirmed. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with this Resolution which are necessary or appropriate to implement the appointment described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage and approval. Gradisar VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk FROM: Nicholas Gradisar, Mayor SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE APPOINTMENT OF ALEXANDRIA A. ROMERO TO THE POSITION OF FINANCE DIRECTOR SUMMARY: The Mayor has appointed Alexandria A. Romero to the vacant position of Finance Director and requests confirmation of said appointment by the City Council. Such appointment is based on Ms. Romero's education, training, experience, and fitness for the position. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: The former Finance Director, Charles Hernandez resigned from the position effective May 31, 2021. The City engaged in a national search to fill this critical position in the City. After a series of interviews, the Mayor selected Ms. Alexandria A. Romero. Part of the selection process included a verification of her qualifications which demonstrated her extensive background in finance and auditing. The Mayor is confident that this makes her a highly qualified candidate for the position. Ms. Romero is a Certified Public Accountant with a Master of Professional Accounting from Colorado State University Global and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Accounting Concentration from Colorado State University, Fort Collins. Ms. Romero is experienced in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements and the Statement on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARS). Ms. Romero held positions as the Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer for the Pueblo City-County Library District from 2020 to 2022. She has been employed in the finance field in auditing and accounting capacities since 2007. Ms. Romero has prepared and managed budgets for several not-for-profit and governmental organizations. Over the past four years, Ms. Romero has received a number of professional and leadership awards acknowledging her outstanding accomplishments. Just a few of which include the Outstanding Young CPA Award - American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (2022), Colorado State University Department of Accounting Hall of Fame inductee (2022), Women to Watch Emerging Leader Award - Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants (2021), and the 40 Under 40 Emerging Leaders Award - Pueblo Latino Chamber of Commerce (2019). FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The salary and benefits of the Finance Director have been budgeted and appropriated within the 2022 budget. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable to this Resolution. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not applicable to this Resolution. ALTERNATIVES: Failure to confirm the appointment of the Finance Director candidate will result in that position remaining vacant.
