Since then, the group has grown to be Pueblo's premiere and oldest folk dance group. Grupo FolklOrico del Pueblo - The People's Folk Group is a professional, 501 c3 non-profit folk-dance company and school of folk arts. All students learn the history and cultural significance of the dances and costumes and the regions from which the dances originate. We are proud to incorporate dances and history that pertain to the New Mexican and Mexican American experience as well. We offer a complete program which includes dancing, traveling, and performing. In all classes, beginner through advanced, students learn a variety of regional dances and Mexican Folk traditions that are important to the people of each region. We believe that learning history should be fun and physically engaging. Through our school of folk arts and folk-dance company we combine dance, music, art, history, and academics to give students the most well-rounded experience. Our certified instructors and staff are here to ensure a fun, family friendly experience. Grupo FolklOrico del Pueblo charges an affordable tuition rate of$40 per family regardless of number of participants. We obtain instruments for students and provided costumes rentals for performances. For those in our community unable to afford the tuition, we provide scholarships to allow them to participate. We are proud to continue to grow our programs, however we could use funding assistance to continue providing quality services to our community. Recently we launched a youth Mariachi Music Program serving students between the ages of 5 - 18. We are asking the Mayor and/or City Council to consider sponsorship of our program in the amount of$7,000. Funding will be used to purchase instruments ( violins, 1/2 violins, guitars, '/2 guitars, guitarron, vihuela, and trumpets)for our instrument lending program. This allows us to engage an economically diverse student body. We will also utilize funds to purchase necessary sound equipment, costumes, and sheet music. Not only does GFDP amplify and preserve Pueblo's Hispanic/Latino culture, but we provide students with a rich cultural foundation to inspire future leaders of our community. Thank you for your consideration, Velma Roybal, CEO Grupo Folklorico Del Pueblo
