A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE
COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2021
GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO THE NAACP PUEBLO
BRANCH IN THE AMOUNT OF $250 TO SPONSOR THE
ANNUAL FREEDOM FUND BANQUET
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
Payment in the amount of $250 from the Council Contingencies Account in the
2021 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to the NAACP Pueblo Branch to
sponsor the Freedom Fund Banquet to be held on October 29, 2021.
SECTION 2.
The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts
consistent with the intent of this Resolution to implement the policies and procedures
described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

SPONSOR THE ANNUAL FREEDOM FUND BANQUET
SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a request for sponsorship of the Annual NAACP Pueblo
Branch’s Freedom Fund Banquet to be held on October 29, 2021. A matching $250 will
come from the Mayor’s contingencies account.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
City Council sponsored this event annually since 2019.
BACKGROUND:
Council Member Mark Aliff is requesting $250 to sponsor a table at the Annual NAACP
Freedom Fund Banquet. This year's event will feature keynote speaker US Congressman
Joe Neguse. The goal of Pueblo National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People is to create a sense of community in the neighborhoods where people live and
work. They hope that an increased sense of community will lead to more personal
involvement and more cultural, educational and social activities, which will create a better
community and a better place for us to live. The Pueblo NAACP branch was chartered in
1918.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funds in the amount of $250 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in
the 2021 General Fund Budget to the NAACP Pueblo Branch.

ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this event.
