HomeMy WebLinkAbout14653 RESOLUTION NO. 14653 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2021 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO THE BROADWAY THEATRE LEAGUE IN THE AMOUNT OF $792 TO SUPPORT THE 2021-2022 SEASON BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. Payment in the amount of $792 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2021 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to the Broadway Theatre League to support the 2021-2022 performance season. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to implement the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval. The season includes “Cats” on November 14, “Hairspray” on December 7, and “Waitress” on January 9. Broadway Theatre League is a local nonprofit recovering from missing out on last year’s season due to COVID-19. Broadway Theatre League is led by a board of volunteers from the Pueblo community who sell ads, tickets, and sponsorships to support the costs of the performance season and to allow for 100 community students and seniors to attend the shows for free. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: Founded in the 1950s, Broadway Theatre League has been providing Southern Colorado with Broadway touring theatre for 70 years. The high-quality productions and family- friendly entertainment add to the quality of life in Southern Colorado. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Funds in the amount of $792 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2021 General Fund Budget to the Broadway Theatre League. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not Applicable. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not Applicable. ALTERNATIVES: City Council could choose not to pay for the sponsorship.
