Davenport, Chief of Police SUBJECT: AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AN AGREEMENT FOR THE TRANSFER OF FIREARMS RELATING TO THE DONATION OF SHOTGUNS FROM THE STATE OF COLORADO TO THE CITY OF PUEBLO AND THE PUEBLO POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE SAME SUMMARY: This Ordinance approves an Agreement with the State of Colorado for the donation of equipment to the Pueblo Police Department Training unit. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: City Council has routinely approved the donation to and receipt of donated items from other agencies. BACKGROUND This agreement with the State of Colorado is for the donation of surplus equipment from the State of Colorado to the Pueblo Police Department. The State of Colorado will donate 50 12 Gauge Remington Model 870 Police Shotguns to the Pueblo Police Department to be used for training, less lethal applications and for police issue. Currently, the Police Department issues Remington 870 Shotguns to all the Patrol Vehicles and to several of the Detective cars. The Pueblo Police Department also uses 870 Shotguns to perform bi-annual firearm qualifications and for in-service training, thus accepting this donation will allow the Department to maintain a working inventory of shotguns from multiple uses. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None. The property is being donated free of charge and will result in the PPD being able to use department funds for other purposes. The approximate value of the donated property is $15,000. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: None. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: None. ALTERNATIVES: If City Council does not approve this Ordinance, the equipment will be destroyed or donated to other departments. RECOMMENDATION The Pueblo Police Department recommends the approval of this Ordinance. Attachment: Agreement for the Transfer of Firearms
