RESOLUTION
COUNCIL MEETING DATE: April 26, 2021
TO: President Lawrence W. Atencio and Members of City Council
VIA: Marisa Stoller, City Clerk
FROM: Mayor Nicholas A. Gradisar
SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE APPOINTMENT OF BARBARA HUBER
TO THE POSITION OF DEPUTY MAYOR
SUMMARY:
The Mayor has appointed Barbara Huber to the position of Deputy Mayor and requests
confirmation of said appointment by the City Council. Such appointment is based on Ms.
Huber’s education, training, experience and fitness for the position.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None.
BACKGROUND:
The Deputy Mayor position was created by the adoption of Ballot Issue 2A by the voters of the
City of Pueblo on November 7, 2017. Ballot Question 2A changed the form of government of
the City from a Council-City Manager format to a Mayor-Council format. The Mayor reappointed
Troy Davenport, Chief of Police, as Deputy Mayor for 2021 on January 11, 2021. Chief
Davenport is retiring from the City of Pueblo with his last working day being April 30, 2021.
Therefore, Mayor Gradisar has reviewed the qualifications of Barbara Huber, who currently
serves as the City’s Fire Chief, a position she has held since August 2019. Ms. Huber has been
with the Pueblo Fire Department for just over 23 years. She has a Bachelor of Science from
Colorado State University (2003) in Fire Management and retired from the U.S. Airforce
reserves after 20 years of service in 2004 as an E-7.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Ms. Huber will continue to serve as Fire Chief and will not receive additional compensation as
Deputy Mayor.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
Not applicable to this Resolution.
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
Not applicable to this Resolution.
ALTERNATIVES:
Failure to confirm the appointment of the Deputy Mayor will result in that position remaining
vacant.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Resolution.
